Jimmy Hawk

Biography

At once familiar and mysterious, Jimmy Hawk and the Endless Party is the sound of road trips, sunsets and romance – requited and otherwise. Make no mistake, this album will both melt and break your heart.

The sophomore LP presents a work of distinct contrasts. Despite seducing the listener to a homely space of sepia-tinged nostalgia via its warmth and breezy melodies, the album remains determinedly forward-looking.

“In terms of vibe, the first album was essentially about break up, whereas this new record is more primal and up,” explains Hawk, adding “It’s the kind of record you put on in a room and make out to.”

Before assembling the Endless Party earlier this year, Jimmy Hawk had already secured his reputation as one of Melbourne’s most inventive songwriters. With a penchant for luscious, transcendental melody and expressive lyricism; Hawk’s musical dreamscapes have endeared him to a steadily growing Fanbase.

The album, Echo Park, released in 2010 saw Hawk deftly re-imagining the well tread path of folk to widespread critical acclaim. The addition of the Endless Party, Thomas Van Der Vleit, Jack Wilson, Dakota Longshot and Troy Ramaekers, has also infused Hawk’s songwriting and practice with new influence. Explains Hawk, “The first record was heavily entrenched in folk rock traditions, whereas this new record sees the band return to Indie and 60′s pop, elements of world music and art rock. In terms of production we wanted the record to feel human and real, so we stayed true to the old school aesthetic of the first album and recorded to tape through analogue gear. The sound you hear on the album is the sound of a band playing in a room in all its glory and imperfections.”

Jimmy Hawk and the Endless Party will launch their self-titled long player this October Saturday 29 at Melbourne’s hottest new venue The Buffalo Club, with Supports from the Operators and Winterborne Movement.
