The band, which has built up a massive cult following on the Australian touring circuit for the better part of this decade, are working on a much anticipated debut album which will capture their incredible, unique fusion of hip-hop, African rhythms, funk, soul and dancehall. The album is scheduled for mid 2009 release.

Momo, one of the group's two frontmen, was born in the African Comoros Islands, where he lived until age three when his family fled to Australia as political refugees. Momo's counterpart – Azmarino, hails from Eritrea (Northeast Africa), and had lived his entire life as a refugee throughout Europe and the Middle East before arriving down under in 2000. The birthplace of the group is in the rough Melbourne neighbourhood of Footscray, where they formed with local producer Ptero Stylus to create Diafrix in 2001. Definitely not the typical story of an Aussie band, but one that reflects an under-represented and growing community of first generation Australians.

After residencies in some of Melbourne’s most iconic music venues, the group hit the road and built up a reputation as one of this country's premier live acts. Before long they were performing at festivals like Big Day Out, Falls Festival, Meredith and West Coast Blues & Roots without a record release to their name. In 2007, Diafrix independently put out their first (and only) release, the In Tha Place EP, which has moved in excess of 3,000 units through shows alone.

Diafrix isn't the kind of band that comes along very often – in fact, it would be pretty hard to find a single other act fusing the same influences that have forged their sound. They come with a one-in-a-million story which has shaped them into a one-in-a-million act.
