Biography

1968-1972
Professional musician in Auckland NZ; private studies in classical guitar, composition and orchestration. Studio and live work on bass [electric and acoustic] for jazz, rock and orchestral ensembles. Arranger for big band and orchestra for television and radio. Producer for various top-selling local recording artists.

1973-1981
Studio musician in London [bass, guitar, keyboards and synth programmer] for artists such as Gary Brooker [Procol Harum], Rick Wakeman, Chris de Burgh, Chris Rea, Leo Sayer, Art Garfunkel, Richard Thomson, Spike Milligan, Scott Walker, Mary Hopkin and Bernie Zarsoff [and lots of people you've never heard of].
Film soundtrack recordings with Marvin Hamlisch, Stanley Myers, Jerry Goldsmith and Dave Grusin.
Several gigs with some particularly crash-hot British jazz luminaries [usually for not a lot of money].
Arrangements and orchestrations for BBC and ITV music programmes.
A six-year association with Cat Stevens, which encompassed two world tours and six albums.

1982-1989
Produced hit records for various local artists including Dave Dobbyn, Shona Laing, Peking Man and Hammond Gamble, as well as a substantial number of television and radio commercials, themes and documentary soundtracks.

1990-1995
Television commercial soundtracks, TV themes [TV1, TV2 and Sky TV].

1996-2001
More commercials, documentaries, an animated series and six feature film scores. Arranged an internationally acclaimed album for Kiri Te Kanawa.
