The Boat People

Biography

Described as the "masters of perfectly unconventional pop" ( Inpress ), the acts The Boat People have supported in Australia give a further inkling of their sound.

These include The Shins, David Byrne, Dogs Die in Hot Cars, Idlewild as well as fellow natives Missy Higgins and Evermore. However, obvious heroes Crowded House are still where comparisons are most readily drawn. Having two lead singers also evokes a Gomez-like arrangement in which whoever writes the song has to sing it . Other Comparisons include Split Enz, Wilco, John Lennon, Coldplay and The Dandy Warhols.

Having released 3 EPs since 2002 and with constant national radio play, national touring and video play, The Boat People released their much-anticipated debut album "yesyesyesyesyes" in late 2005 to great critical acclaim ("The most sparkling and vibrant Australian Record in years... yesyesyesyesyes has made the world a conspicuously better place." Time Off). Three songs gained high rotation on national youth radio station Triple J and latest single “Unsettle My Heart” was recently been added to national commercial radio station Nova.

In 2006 the band showcased in Los Angeles at the highly regarded Musexpo conference culminating in the signing of US film and television deal with Bicycle Publishing, airplay on Indie 103.1 and heavy rotation on US cable station IMF for “Unsettle My Heart”. The band is now getting ready to record album number 2 which is due for release in April 2007.
