Evil J & Saint Cecilia are Eliza- Jane Barnes (E-J) and Cecilia Herbert (Ceci). They are old friends that have long desired to make music together, and last year while they were both in Sydney, finally got the chance. ‘Strange Beasts’ is the eccentrically enticing debut LP from these singer-songwriters.

After spending the last 4 years writing, recording and touring the world with Liam Finn and Lawrence Arabia, E-J has returned home and joined forces with the wonderfully talented Ceci (formerly of Guineafowl) to create the luminous and daring ‘Strange Beasts’ (out independently March 11, with distribution through MGM).

They recorded the hauntingly beautiful record by themselves, straight to tape in Eliza-Jane’s home studio. They played any instruments they could get their hands on - guitars, bass, harp, stylophone, accordion, to name a few, and used an omnichord as a drummer. The eclectic mixture of sounds is complemented perfectly by the girls soaring vocal harmonies. Put simply, ‘Strange Beasts’ sounds like nothing else out there. This analogue beast is brave!

The legendary Rick Will (Grinspoon, Boy & Bear) lent them his ears, for the mixing. The result is nothing short of spectacular. Surprisingly refreshing ‘Strange Beasts’ is original to say the least.

‘Silver Spoons’ is the exceptionally beautiful first offering from these self-proclaimed psychedelic folk artists – and it shall not disappoint! A stunningly sweet tune, it’s a song about family, belonging, separation, choices, and mostly… home. Haunting in its originality yet compelling and uplifting in vibe, ‘Silver Spoons’ will resonate with you long after the first listen.

Having just wrapped up a SOLD OUT national tour in support of the legendary Eddie Vedder, the girls are now gearing up to launch the record with a series of headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne with more national dates to follow.
