DZ Deathrays

Biography

It’s fair to say that this year has been DZ Deathrays biggest to date. With only half the year down, the Brisbane based thrash/punk duo have released their 2nd EP ‘Brutal Tapes’ through Melbourne label “I OH YOU” which was met with a flurry of acclaim from both fans and critics around the world, played shows in three separate continents and enjoyed the kind of buzz most up-and-coming acts dream of!

Having ventured to the US earlier this year for a whirlwind two-week tour that featured shows in Los Angeles, NYC and SXSW (Austin, TX), Shane Parsons and Simon Ridley received a great response, which led to Jen Long (BBC 1) blogging about their performance at the Aussie BBQ.

More recently the two friends shot across too the UK for a more extensive run of dates which included a 10-date tour with the New York punk outfit Cerebral Ballzy and a string of dates on The Great Escape Festival. Already having the support of Jen Long behind them the response and feedback that DZ Deathrays received while in the UK was nothing short of overwhelming as UK blogs begun to post rave reviews, only to be topped off by both NME and Q Magazine featuring them in the top 10 bands to come out of the festival. Furthermore NME featured DZ Deathrays in their ‘Radar Live’ section and Q Mag awarded them with ‘Track of the Day’, NME also placed the 8th in the Top 50 best new bands of 2011 and provided the band with a full page spread in a recent issue. Subsequently, radio support jumped on straight away, with single ‘Gebbie Street’ getting plays on Radio 1 and XFM.

With all of the above going on overseas, DZ Deathrays might be forgiven for allowing things to cool off back home however the band have done the exact opposite by announcing upon their arrival back to Australian shores that they will be touring this July with Dananananaykroyd and again in August with Victorian grunge/rock outfit Children Collide. On top of these dates the band will also be headlining MUM in Sydney and headlining Tone Deaf in Melbourne. For all dates see below.

With all this good news, on top of an onslaught of Australian media and blogs returning a plethora of praise for their latest release and live show performances, it’s no wonder why DZ Deathrays are proving to be one of Australia’s most promising young talents at present time…..don’t take our word for it through, get to a show!

‘….by the end of their set they’ve even managed to achieve the near-impossible by coercing a fair proportion of the front row into jumping about like lunatics. Justice!’ – NME Magazine

‘…Shane Parsons barks at you relentlessly, demanding your full attention. It’s powerful, visceral stuff’ – Q Magazine
