Mushroom Music are proud to announce the signing of quiet pop genius Geoff O'Connor - the mastermind behind Melbourne outfits Sly Hats and Crayon Fields.
On a nightly basis, this able songwriter dreams up lush pop songs in his sleep, recording them at his bedside when he wakes. Earlier this year O'Connor released his first solo album Liquorice Night under the Sly Hats banner - a near perfect record that channeled the intense on-track chanteuse chemistry of Serge Gainsbourg, the leisurely sun soaked whimsical tropical pop of Cat Steven's Matthew and Son LP and the opaque dynamic transcendent arrangements of Scott Walker.
Crayon Fields finds O'Connor strumming and singing alongside bassist Brett Hudson, guitarist Chris Hung and drummer Neil Erenstrom. Jointly they finely craft melodically intertwined vintage-toned pop. A follow up to their 2006 album Animal Bells is currently in the works.
Mushroom Music are excited by our opportunity to support this prolific songwriter's infectious output.

Mushroom is also proud to represent the band's earlier, and equally great albums, "Oh, Inverted World"and "Chutes Too Narrow".

1960s inspired rockers Belles Will Ring have had a big year. Between dropping their critically acclaimed debut album, Mood Patterns, back in April, and touring with the likes of The Cold War Kids, The Long Blondes, and Youth Group, to name a few, it is hard to believe they have had much time for anything else. Landing a deal with Ivy League Publishing [administered by Mushroom Music] (who rep the likes of Josh Pyke, The Vines, and The Mess Hall) must have come as icing on this year's already delicious cake.
Belles Will Ring recently released their newest single Outlaws & Lovers (a tune that oozes summertime) and are planning to hit the road yet again to support it. You can catch these psychedelic rockers in action when their tour kicks off later this month.

Mushroom Music has recently scored the queen bee - genius wordsmith and pop culture fiend Macromantics (aka Romy Hoffman).
Macro packs plentiful punches with rap songs that are as dark, as they are playful. Originally from Sydney, the now Melbourne based artist began her musical career as a 15 year-old guitarist for Ben Lee's Noise Addict before surrendering herself to hip-hop culture.
Last year Macro dropped her acclaimed debut album 'Moments In Movement', which earned a US release through seminal indie/punk label Kill Rock Stars, giving her an international outlook. Mushroom Music are proud to be supporting the future of one of Australia's most inspiring, genuine and focused female songwriters.'

It is neither good nor healthy to go through the bones of the past, but unfortunately we must. Future of the Left are comprised of two thirds of the now defunct Mclusky, & one fifth of Jarcrew. There, that's been said.
Curses is their first album. Fourteen pocket-sized acidic incantations that trip off the tongue & scatter all manner of charms, jinxes & hexes around your person, your living quarters, your friends & your work colleagues. Songs about cats, Tories & the skeletons of tiny children. Guitars that jerk & spark like cattle prods refashioned into impromptu ECT electrodes. Basslines that impact like a deft flurry of feet, like being kicked to death by the cast of Riverdance. Drums that march, bound & turn on the head of a platinum pin.
In the live format they are, unsurprisngly, so much more. More ferocious. More furious. More melodic. And more hilarious.
In short Future of the Left further stretch the boundaries of what a rock band should be. "It's about something more than three guys coming onstage & yelling "Rock!"down the microphone"explains guitarist/vocalist Falco. "I wouldn't want people to see three guys on stage & think that all that brought them here was guitars & disagreements with a variety of authority figures. There can be a fuller, rounder, slightly funny picture to it".

JACK JOHNSON will be returning to Australian shores with a new album under his belt, and a back catalogue of hits spanning his multi-platinum selling albums "Brushfire Fairytales", "On and On", and "In Between Dreams". The shows promise Australian audiences the extraordinary live experience they have come to know and love over the past 8 years, as he performs such classics as "Inaudible Melodies", "Sitting Waiting Wishing", "Flake", "Taylor", "Times Like These' and many more.
As a precursor to the forthcoming tour, the brand new single "If I Had Eyes"is set to be released here on Boxing Day, with the album due to hit stores Feb 2nd 2008. Titled "Sleep Through The Static", JACK'S fourth studio album is yet another hypnotic blend of JACK JOHNSON penned treasures that will enthrall his longtime fans, and capture new ones as JACK and his band mates shake things up a little, cranking electric guitars and adding darker themes to his songs. Recording for the first time outside Hawaii, the forthcoming album is the first to be recorded at L.A.'s Solar Powered Plastic Plant, and is co-produced by JP Plunier who worked with JACK on his first album.
Touring once again with long time band members Adam Topol (drums), Merlo Podlewski (bass) and relative newcomer Zach Gill (keys), Australian fans can look forward to being the first audiences in the world to hear his forthcoming album 'Sleeping Through the Static' brought to life, as JACK JOHNSON kicks off his world tour in Australia & New Zealand next year.
Special guest for the tour will be Brushfire Records Label mate MATT COSTA. It's COSTA'S sophomore release 'Unfamiliar Faces' with its appealing melodies reminiscent of the Shins, Spoon and Ben Folds that sees him return to Australia for his second visit. While the two fellow musicians have toured together several times internationally and collaborated on numerous soundtrack projects, this will be their first time in Australia together.
Picking up the opening slot is local Byron talent WILL CONNER. With a reputation for making music with a pure and unwavering sound, CONNER along with special guest 21st century soul surfer DAVE "RASTA"RASTOVICH, will open proceedings performing tracks from his debut album 'Southern Hemisphere'.
In an effort to acknowledge and support the important work that non-profit groups are doing in communities across the planet, JACK JOHNSON'S 2008 world tour is reaching out to groups who are activating positive change in the realms of water quality, community & school gardens, land preservation, environmental education and more. With his World Tour kicking off in Australia / NZ JACK has engaged a number of these organizations to be present at the shows to raise awareness of their objectives.
With tickets selling out on JACK'S last Australian tour in record time, fans should get in early to avoid missing out on what's shaping up to be the must see tour of 2008.

The Stems' debut album has just gone gold. Their new album 'Heads Up' is out now through Shock Records and Distribution.
See why their performances at the recent 'Clash of the Titans' tour, with the Hoodoo Gurus and Radio Birdman, have had alot of tongues wagging- as they prepare to embark on their album tour this November.
Do not miss the Stems live this November as the band is now more than ever, writing brilliant songs and blowing away audiences with their explosive live show.
'Their chiming indie-garage sound is timeless... - Think Hoodoo Gurus, then multiply it by a thousand!' Time Off - Brisbane
Two decades after mysteriously disbanding, while riding high on the success of their one and only classic LP, 1987's 'At First Sight- Violets are Blue', Australian garage rock legends THE STEMS are set to release their highly anticipated second album 'Heads Up'.
Containing 10 new, spankin' original garage rock gems 'Heads Up' was recorded in Perth in earlier part of 2007 at the analogue and vintage recording compound KingDom Studios and later mixed at Ultrasuede in Cincinnati by producer John Curley (White Stripes, Afghan Wigs, Greenhornes, & Ronnie Spector).
In March 2003 THE STEMS reunited for a national tour which would see an amazing comeback to local and international music scene. After the re-release of their classic 'At First sight Violets are Blue' originally released in 1987 and the release of the 'Mushroom Soup Anthology' and 'Terminal Cool' retrospective in the US, THE STEMS have found themselves playing to packed houses across the country, touring Europe and playing the prestigious 'Little Stevens Underground Garage Festival.
If the recent sold out shows are any indication, their long overdue second album 'Heads Up' released on October 6 will further consolidate their reputation.

'I'm very pleased with the way it turned out,' says Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails' Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D), to be released November 24, 2007. 'Remix records can be disposable garbage (of which I myself have been guilty to some extent) but this collection feels good to me.'
Spun off from Year Zero, the US #2-charting album, Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D features a stunning diversity of remixers, from Joy Division and New Order's Stephen Morris to classical crossover pioneer Kronos Quartet and hip-hop poet Saul Williams; from avant-garde leader Bill Laswell, electronica's Olof Dreijer from The Knife, Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino and post-punk revivalists The Faint to an unknown fan who submitted a remix via the Internet.
'I reached out to heroes, friends and strangers,' says Reznor. 'I encouraged those I approached to do anything and insert themselves as much as possible into the track. Some of the stuff that was done earlier led me to choosing other people to balance things out. The Pirate Robot Midget mix is a fan's work--I thought it was great, it filled a need and I asked permission to use it here. It's always interesting for me to hear my work reinterpreted--I hope it is for you as well.'
In fact, purchasers can even reinterpret and remix Year Zero themselves. The CD package for Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D includes a DVD-ROM containing every track from Year Zero in multi-track format (Mac and PC). Perhaps for the first time, the master multi-tracks for every recording on a major album are being made available to the public. The tracks are pre-formatted for Apple GarageBand and Ableton Live (Mac or PC); the DVD-ROM also adds the demo version of Ableton Live (Mac or PC) and generic WAVE files at 16 bit 44K that can be loaded into any audio editor. The package is 180 gram heavy vinyl in a deluxe six-panel gatefold jacket.
A special Web site, remix.nin.com, will debut upon Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D's release date. Says Reznor,'Remixes and fun encouraged.'

In November 2007, David Gray returns with a new single and a Greatest Hits album.
The single 'You're The World To Me' is featured on the album along with another new track - 'Destroyer' - both produced by legendary Pink Floyd/Sex Pistols producer Chris Thomas - and are the first new releases from David since 2005's Life In Slow Motion album.
Greatest Hits will be the first compilation to feature songs from throughout David's recording career, a period that covers seven albums, three record labels and eleven million album sales worldwide.
Trained as a painter at the Liverpool College of Art, in 1990 David Gray eschewed canvas for a career in music. After eight years touring and having been dropped by two record labels over the course of three albums - A Century Ends, Flesh & Sell Sell Sell - David repaired to his house to write and release White Ladder on his own label. To date that album has sold 6 million copies worldwide and established David as one of the UK's most popular artists both in the UK and abroad. In Ireland, White Ladder remains the best selling album of all time and has reached over Double Platinum sales in Australia.
Since then, he has had another 2 UK No.1 albums and won the prestigious Ivor Novello Award twice - in 2001 for his breakthrough single 'Babylon' and again in 2003 for the single 'The Other Side'. He has also won a GQ Award for Best Solo Artist (2002), a Q Award for Best Single (2001) and nominated twice for Best Male (2001/2003) at the Brit Awards, alongside a Grammy Nomination for Best New Artist (2002). Two compositions from his most recent studio album Life In Slow Motion came from his work on the soundtrack for Amma Assante's debut film A Way Of Life and landed Gray a 2005 BAFTA Anthony Asquith Award nomination for Best New British Composer. David continues to write and record at his studio in north London, and expects to have a new album ready for release by autumn 2008.

They built their reputation on outrageous on-stage antics, but last night The Mint Chicks proved they have the goods to back it up, winning three Tuis at the New Zealand Music Awards.
The punk rockers were the big winners of the night, claiming the Best Group award and winning Best Album and Best Rock Album for last year's release Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!
"It's surprising because we've never been nominated for any of these awards before and then all of a sudden we get nominated and we win them all,"said drummer Paul Roper.
"It's like we paid our dues and then they paid us back all at once, in one big hit,"added guitarist Ruban Nielson.
The wins mark a break in tradition for the awards, which generally favour the most commercially successful artists and albums.
Named TimeOut's album of the year for 2006, Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No! was a critical success but failed to achieve gold status, which requires a minimum of 7,500 album sales.
MUSHROOM MUSIC PUBLISHING'S WINNERS
Album of the Year: The Mint Chicks - Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!
Best Group: The Mint Chicks - Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!
Best Male Solo Artist: Tim Finn - Imaginary Kingdom
Best Rock Album: The Mint Chicks - Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!
C4 Best Music Video: Sam Peacocke - Crazy?Yes!Dumb? No! (The Mint Chicks)
Best Dance/Electronica Album: Shapeshifter - Soulstice
And not a minute too late... The Mint Chicks critically acclaimed sophomore album CRAZY? YES! DUMB? NO! has broken the Gold mark!!!!
The Mint Chicks prove again why they are a force to be reckoned with!
Only yesterday is was lamented by NZ Herald journalist Scott Kara, 'Since being released in September last year, it hasn't even reached gold status... What a shame. If you haven't heard it, then go get it. But hey, they won.'
The people have spoken! And gold the album is.
The band are currently on tour in Australia and will be announcing a NZ tour for December soon...
