New Melbourne band Airbourne, have made a strong impression with their powerful live show and crunching guitars. Not an
unusual scenario. What followed next is straight out of a rock and roll fairytale.Australian record companies picked up the scent but were
quickly joined by the American labels who got into a serious contest for the right to sign the band. Emerging from that scrum was Capitol/EMI with a multi-album deal. Airbourne had also made the wise decision to link up with their manager Gregg Donovan of Step 2 Management, who also handles Grinspoon. They had the benefit of his experience and serious passion for great rock. The last piece of the jigsaw was to find a music publisher. On
Wednesday 11 January, Airbourne signed to Australia's largest
independent publisher Mushroom Music Publishing. Mushroom Music Chairman Michael Gudinski had shown great enthusiasm from the start as his agency Premier Harbour has booked the band from their early shows. They chose Mushroom Music over a strong field of candidates as they felt that their full tilt approach to music fitted perfectly with the Mushroom style.Mushroom Music Publishing welcomes it's newest and loudest stars. 2006 will be a year to rock and Airbourne will be playing the soundtrack.

Australian teen singer-songwriter Kate Alexa is counting her lucky stars. She's just been selected as the official support act for US superstars the Backstreet Boys when they tour Australia at the end of this month.
To coincide with Kate's addition to the tour her record label, Liberation Music, are rush releasing to radio her third single 'All I Hear,' which Kate just finished recording in America. With a catchy chorus and hooks galore, it's a single that has smash hit written all over it.
Kate's debut in the live arena was last year with teen heart throb Jesse McCartney on his national theatre tour. Kate and her band played to over 15,000 young fans, and made a real connection with her audience - evidence of this can be seen on the cd rom component of her new single 'All I Hear' (in stores March 6).
Kate says 'I am so excited to be part of this tour not only to see Backstreet Boys in their first ever Australian tour, but also to get the opportunity to perform some new songs I wrote recently in LA. After the Jesse tour, I have got a real 'itch' for performing live with my band.'
'All I Hear' is a rockier number (after her Top 20 single Always There and Top 30 single My Day Will Come) - written by Kate during a two week song-writing trip in Los Angeles last November. She collaborated on 'All I Hear' with hit-makers Reed Vertelney and Lindy Robbins. Grammy nominee Vertelney, who also produced the track, has worked with the likes of Destiny's Child, Luther Vandross and Michael Jackson. Lindy's credits include Anastasia and the Backstreet Boys' recent smash hit 'Incomplete'.
Kate, almost 18, has developed and identified a sound that really encompasses her as a performer. She adds, 'I've always had eclectic tastes. I can listen to someone sophisticated like Alicia Keys or poppy like Kelly Clarkson but I appreciate a loud naughty-boy rock band like Velvet Revolver too.'
Having finished her schooling at the end of 2005, Kate is now focusing on completing the recording of her debut album Broken and Beautiful, which is due for release early this year.

Mushroom Music NZ Ltd has further strengthened its position as New Zealand's leading publisher of local songwriters, signing one of the country's highest selling artists, Scribe, on January 1, 2006.
As with all songwriters signed to Mushroom Music NZ Ltd, Scribe will enjoy the benefit of his royalties staying within New Zealand.
New Zealand artists currently signed to Australian publishing companies attract a withholding tax in both Australia and New Zealand. By signing to a New Zealand company such as Mushroom Music NZ royalties remain within the country meaning songwriters will not incur withholding tax on their local earnings.
The only publisher to have a local office in New Zealand, Mushroom Music NZ has the country's largest catalogue of local talent. Scribe will join an extensive catalogue boasting household names such as Neil Finn, Tim Finn, Salmonella Dub, The Mint Chicks, Betchadupa, The Datsuns, Elemeno P, The Feelers, Anika Moa, Nathan Haines and King Kapisi.
Since releasing his debut album The Crusader in October 2003, Scribe has had phenomenal success both within New Zealand and abroad. He is the first NZ artist to simultaneously hold the number one spots on the NZ album and singles chart, and has achieved quadruple platinum sales in this country. In Australia he has secured platinum status with sales now in excess of 100,000, making Scribe the biggest selling NZ artist in Australia since the days of Split Enz and Crowded House.
In 2004 Scribe made a clean sweep of the Tui Awards winning Album Of The Year, Single Of The Year, People's Choice, Songwriter Of The Year, Best Urban/Hip Hop Album, Best Video and Best Male Solo Artist. He also won the 2004 APRA Silver Scroll Award for 'Not Many'.
In 2005 Scribe was accorded an International Achievement Award at the Tui Awards and sold out venues across Australia and New Zealand with his critically acclaimed concert tour.
Michael Gudinski said signing Scribe, one of New Zealand's most exciting artists, to Mushroom Music NZ Ltd was incredibly thrilling for the company and illustrative of the company's determination to take publishing to a new level in New Zealand.
'Under the direction of Jackie Dennis, Mushroom Music NZ is moving from strength to strength.
'I'm proud to say that Mushroom Music NZ is the leading publisher in New Zealand and adding a songwriter of Scribe's calibre this early in the year excites me no end.
'I'm a strong believer that New Zealand artists should be represented by a local office and that royalties should stay in New Zealand.
'I can't think of a better way to start the year. We're thrilled that Scribe has signed with Mushroom Music NZ and look forward to many other great NZ artists coming on board throughout the year.'
