27 Jan 2012 : MUSHROOM MUSIC | Triple J HOTTEST 100 Hit List!

Thursday 26th of January 2012, AUSTRALIA DAY. A day of national celebration and of course that famous radio event, the annual Triple J Hottest 100 countdown.

A staggering 1,378,869 million votes were polled for this years countdown in what is widely known as the worlds largest musical democracy.

The countdown was the soundtrack for BBQ's and backyard parties across the nation and Mushroom Music joined in the celebration with 11 songs polling in the top 100.

Melbourne's Husky, came in at #78 with the song 'History's Door' from their debut album 'Forever So'.

Indie Pop sensation Owl Eyes had success with her track 'Raiders' from the EP with the same name snagging #64 on the countdown. The songstress also had success with her cover of 'Pumped Up Kicks' by the US band Foster The People landing #28 (4 spots better then the original the previous year). To top off a memorable Australia Day for Brooke Addamo, #OWLEYES was a trending topic on TWITTER in Australia.

Sparkadia's 'The Great Impression' heralded two songs for the group with 'China' grabbing #56 and 'Mary' following closely at #47.

Melbourne Hip Hopper and no stranger to the Hottest 100 Illy, was again amongst the best with his track 'Cigarettes' from his 2010 LP 'The Chase' landing #35.

Hip Hop royalties Jay-Z & Kanye West teamed up earlier in the year to bring us 'Otis' which featured at #33 in the countdown.

Bangin' club favourite Example, earned #27 with party track 'Changed The Way You Kiss Me'.

In what has been an astonishing year for the teenage group and Triple J Unearthed High winners, Snakadaktal have solidified themselves as the real deal and popular amongst the J listeners finishing up at #22 with their track 'Air'.

Energetic party starters and Triple J favourites Bluejuice, impressed again in this years countdown with 'Act Yr Age’ earning the #20 spot.

Adding another cherry to The Jezabels 2011 cake was the bands track 'Endless Summer' from their critically acclaimed debut album 'Prisoner' which landed #9 on the listener voted poll. The band is currently on a victory lap around Australia as part of the Big Day Out national tour.

Matt Corby was unlucky to not take out top spot honors in this years countdown with his haunting and incredibly juicy track 'Brother' which polled at an impressive #3. Matt Corby kicks off his 'Into The Flame' tour on FEB 19 which takes in a staggering 5 Corner Hotel shows in Melbourne (a record he shares with Washington).

The eventual Hottest 100 winner was the un-backable favourite Gotye, with his hit 'Somebody That I Used To Know'.
