23 Oct 2006 : SANDI THOM Announces Australian Tour
Sandi Thom is the 21st Century's flagship artist. She cemented herself as 2006's artist to watch when her debut single 'I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair)' shot to #1 in both the United Kingdom and Australia. In Australia, the single is now certified platinum, having sold in excess of 100,000 copies and maintaining top spot on the National ARIA Singles Chart for seven weeks straight.
In January and February next year, Sandi Thom will undertake her first ever Australian tour, bringing her live show to Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. The announcement follows the exciting news of her upcoming promotional visit in November.
Thom's rise to stardom is one you'd expect of a fairytale. One evening whilst on her way to perform at a gig, her car broke down, leaving her stranded. It was whilst she was stuck by the side of the road that the idea to broadcast live shows over the internet crept into the Scottish singer-songwriter's mind.
Thom invested in a webcam and announced a 21-date 'tour' to be broadcast from her basement. As word spread about her phenomenal talent, each performance saw her audience swell, increasing from 70 to 70 000 in less than three weeks!
Thom's tour sparked record label interest, and upon its completion she signed a recording contract online. This became the first webcast signing in major record label history! Her debut album Smile... It Confuses People (out now through SonyBMG) was released just a few months later. It debuted at #1 in the UK and quickly rose to the Top 20 of Australia's ARIA chart.
Thom's emotive, powerful voice sets her apart from the pop generation of today. Unafraid to take a risk, she fuses killer melodies with whimsical lyrics on her sparsely-accompanied songs. Her music is upbeat and uncomplicated and has captured the world's attention, drawing comparisons to Alanis Morissette and Joni Mitchell.
Signing a recording contract on the strength of her live performance guarantees that Sandi Thom will not disappoint. She's sold out countless shows across the UK, and Australia will not be any different. Make sure you seize the chance to see this future superstar on her first ever Australian tour.
