INTERNATIONAL CATALOGUES
BMG Chrysalis
Tracing its origins back to the establishment of the Ellis-Wright Agency in West London in 1967, Chrysalis has grown from a modest artist management and booking agency looking after the interests of Ten Years After and Jethro Tull into a significant international business with operations in music publishing, copyright ownership, recorded music, artist management and entertainment product distribution.
From 1968 to 1991 Chrysalis Records (and its subsidiary offshoot 2-Tone) built a strong reputation as a leading independent label, releasing records by an array of hugely influential artists such as Jethro Tull, Blondie and Billy Idol.
The sale of Chrysalis Records to EMI in the early nineties marked a temporary break in Chrysalis’s involvement in the business of releasing records however the company retained its extensive publishing interests, home to many of the artists signed to Chrysalis records, whilst also forging a name for itself in other areas including radio broadcasting, television production and book publishing.
Today, having sold its tv and book publishing interests, Chrysalis is now a music focused business with its primary interest being music publishing. With a catalogue of over 100,000 songs we continue to sign, nurture and maximize the potential of a vast body of songwriting talent.
At the end of 2010, Chrysalis was bought by BMG Rights Management.
